2019 Bradley Winter Open

Get Ready! The Bradley Winter Open will be here before you know it!

Greater Peoria Chess Foundation

The GPCF is the driving force behind Peoria Chess. The Foundation provides tournaments and activities and the fiscal muscle to promote chess. Our youth chess programs involve over 100 youths of various ages and has included many individual and team state champions.

Bradley University

Founded in 1897, Bradley University is located in Peoria, Ill., in the historic West Bluff residential neighborhood. At Bradley, undergraduate students can choose from more than 100 undergraduate programs within five colleges. Bradley University has sponsored the annual Bradley Summer Open and the Bradley Winter Open chess tournaments for many years. The BSO started in 1964 and is the longest running university sponsored tournament in the nation. The Winter Open, a later addition, started in 1992 and has recently reached it's 25th anniversary, making it also a US Chess Heritage event.

The Illinois Tour

Each year the Illinois Chess Association designates 12 Tournaments across the state as tour events. The top scores across all 12 tournaments wins special prizes by rating class from our state organization. The Greater Peoria Open, the Bradley Winter Open and Bradley Winter Open are Illinois Tour events. Following the northern Illinois Tim Just Open by just one week, the BWO is the 2nd tournament in the annual tour schedule and has a major impact on the early leaders.
